Starting Lineup

Arsenal looks to control games through heavy possession and high pressing within a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the ball and squeeze the opposition in their own half. The goal is to use the ball to move the opponent around until gaps open up in the defensive lines.

David Raya operates between the posts to start the build up from the back. The back line functions as a flat back four with Saliba and Kiwior acting as the central pair. Saliba is dominant in the air and shows great composure when playing out from the back, while Kiwior provides cover. Ben White plays as an attacking full back on the right to provide width, while MLS handles the left side to help manage the defensive line. The unit works together to maintain a high line and catch attackers offside.

A three man midfield acts as the engine for Arsenal. Thomas Partey plays as a single pivot to shield the defence and recycle possession. Alongside him, Declan Rice operates as a carrier who can drive forward with the ball and win the second ball in the middle of the pitch. Odedog completes the trio to connect the defensive and attacking lines. This midfield unit is designed to press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch and maintain control of the center.

The attacking unit relies on three players to stretch the defence. Martinelli plays as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside and run in behind, while Saka operates on the right to isolate his marker and carry the ball forward. Mikel Merino acts as a pressing centre-forward to lead the front line. The team builds attacks through combinations in tight spaces and uses wide players to pull the opposition apart. Merino works to hold up the ball to allow the wingers to arrive late into the box.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its ability to press high in coordinated waves. Arsenal often gains numerical superiority in midfield to control the tempo of the match. The presence of Saka and Martinelli also allows the team to create wide overloads from overlapping full backs.
