Starting Lineup

Guddal · Haugaard · Skjærvik · Cornic · Hjertø-Dahl · Edvardsson · Kristiansen · Norheim · Mikkelsen · Romsaas · BRAUT

Tromsø aims to play with a high press and quick transitions using a 3-4-3. This lineup is built to squeeze the space in the opponent's half and win the ball high up the pitch. The team looks to use the width provided by the wide players to stretch the defence and create space for the central attackers.

Haugaard occupies the goal to organize the defensive unit. The back line features a back three where Kristiansen, Guddal, and Skjærvik defend the central zones. Kristiansen plays as the left centre-back to cover the flank, while Skjærvik operates as the right centre-back. Guddal sits in the heart of the defence to win the header and sweep behind the line if the defenders step up. This defensive unit works to hold a narrow defensive block to deny the turn of opposing attackers.

The midfield functions with a central pairing and two wide midfielders to connect the defence and attack. Edvardsson and Hjertø-Dahl act as the central engine. Edvardsson is tasked to carry the ball forward and break the line, while Hjertø-Dahl stays deeper to shield the defence and recycle possession. Norheim and Cornic provide the necessary width in the midfield. Norheim pushes up to overlap the winger, while Cornic seeks to spread wide and deliver early crosses into the box.

The attacking front line uses three players to press from the front. BRAUT acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and link up play with his teammates. Mikkelsen operates as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside and find space in the half-spaces. Romsaas stays on the right to provide width and look for runs in behind. This group works to pin the last defender and create combinations in tight spaces to split the defence with a through ball.

One major advantage of this Tromsø formation is the ability to create wide overloads. When Cornic and Romsaas move up the pitch together, they can double up on the opposition wide players. The team also relies on speed of transition to exploit gaps when the ball is won high up the pitch. This formation allows the players to press in pairs to trigger a press and win the ball back quickly.

This 3-4-3 formation relies on high intensity to dominate the pitch. It is ideally suited for matches against teams that try to play short from the back and can be pressured.
