Partizan plays with a heavy emphasis on direct attacking transitions, utilizing a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition with four aggressive forwards, looking to strike quickly as soon as the ball is won. The intent is to pin the opposition back and use the width of the pitch to stretch the defense.

Jovanovic operates between the posts to command the area. The back line consists of a flat back four where Filipovic and Urosevic act as full backs to provide width. Maras and Nastasic occupy the central roles, with Maras acting as a ball playing defender to start attacks and Nastasic providing cover. This defensive unit must stay compact to prevent being caught by long balls while the full backs move up to support the middle.

The midfield functions as a double pivot to provide a screen for the back four. Pojacanje and Kovac sit in front of the defense to win the second ball and protect the center of the pitch. Pojacanje works to break the line with vertical passes, while Kovac focuses on recycling possession and connecting the defensive unit to the heavy front line. These two must be disciplined to prevent being bypassed in the transition.

The attack is extremely aggressive, featuring two center forwards in Stuart and Ljajic. Stuart acts as a target man to hold up the ball, while Ljajic looks to play off him or make runs in behind. On the flanks, Kalulu and Zubairu act as wide wingers who stay high to push the opposition back. They look to isolate defenders in one on one situations and deliver crosses into the box to find the two strikers.

Partizan gains a significant advantage through their ability to create wide overloads when the full backs push high. The formation also offers a high level of speed of transition, allowing them to hit teams on the break before the opposition can set their defensive line. This setup forces the opponent to defend a great deal of space behind their own midfielders.

This 4-2-4 formation is designed to play a high tempo, vertical game. It is best suited for matches where Partizan can exploit space behind a high defensive line or when they need to overwhelm an opponent through sheer numbers in the final third.
