Arsenal aims to dominate through high intensity and verticality in a 4-2-4. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and move quickly toward the opposition goal. By committing many players forward, the team looks to stretch the defence and create constant pressure in the final third.

Joan Garcia plays between the posts to manage the defensive line. Arsenal defends with a flat back four where Timber acts as an attacking full back to provide width. Gabriel and Saliba form a central pairing, with Gabriel being dominant in the air and Saliba acting as a ball playing defender who can cover space behind the line. Calafiori operates on the left, often stepping up to help the midfield or tucking in to create a back three when the team is out of possession.

The midfield works as a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. Zubimendi operates as a deep lying playmaker, looking to recycle possession and find teammates in advanced positions. Alongside him, Rice acts as a carrier who can drive forward with the ball and press aggressively to win the ball back. This duo connects the defence to the attack, with Rice often dropping to shield the back four while Zubimendi directs play from deep.

The attacking front line is extremely potent with four dedicated players. Williams and Saka act as wide wingers, with Saka looking to cut inside and Gyokeres acting as a pressing centre forward to lead the line. Odegaard plays as a second striker in the hole, finding pockets of space between the lines to create chances. This front four works to pin the last defender and create runs in behind, often using combinations to break the line.

One major strength of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. The front four can trigger a press that forces the opposition into mistakes. Another advantage is the wide overloads created when Timber and Calafiori push up to overlap the wingers. This setup also allows for great speed of transition once the ball is won by Rice or Zubimendi.

Arsenal uses this aggressive formation to overwhelm opponents through sheer numbers in the attacking zones. It is a lineup best suited for matches where the team needs to break down a low block or dominate through high pressing.
