This lineup is built to maintain a narrow defensive block and wait for the right moment to transition from defense to attack. The tactical intent relies on clogging the central areas to force the opposition wide before launching vertical attacks.

Mina sits between the posts to organize the back line. The defensive unit operates as a flat back four where Gonzalez acts as the right back to provide width, while J. Rodríguez plays as the left back. The two central defenders, REFUERZO and REFUERZO, must hold the line and remain physically dominant to clear the lines. This back four works together to squeeze the space and ensure the team remains difficult to break down in a mid-block.

The midfield contains five players tasked with controlling the center of the pitch. Garces and Borja or Valencia function as a double pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. In front of them, Sanchez or Solis and REFUERZO or Fragozo operate in the half spaces to link the defensive and attacking lines. Corozo or Muñoz plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to connect the midfield to the forward line. This group must work hard to press in a mid-block and deny the pivot of the opposition.

Up front, Emelec relies on a lone striker, the REFUERZO at the top of the formation, to act as a focal point. The attack is built through quick combinations in transition where the wide midfielders or the attacking ten look to find the feet of the striker. While the striker holds up the ball, Corozo or Muñoz looks to make runs into the box. The team uses the width provided by the full backs to stretch the defense and deliver crosses into the box.

A major advantage for Emelec is the ability to maintain compactness when defending in a narrow block. By crowding the midfield with five players, the team creates numerical superiority in the central zones to intercept passes. Additionally, the speed of transition allows the team to move from a deep position to an attacking one very quickly. This setup makes it very hard for opponents to find space between the lines.
