Starting Lineup

Balogun (regen) · Souttar · Jefte · Tav · Raskin (C) · Dio · Hagi · Igamane · Cerny · Butland · Some rapid cunt

Heavy central dominance defines the way Rangers play in this 2-6-2 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the middle of the pitch and win the ball high up the pitch through intense pressure. The goal is to congest the central channels to prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.

Butland stands alone in goal to protect the back line. Souttar and Balogun (regen) form a narrow two man defensive line that must stay extremely compact. Souttar is dominant in the air to clear the lines during crosses, while Balogun (regen) is a ball playing defender who looks to play short from the back. Because there are only two central defenders, they must constantly shift to cover the wide areas if the midfield is bypassed.

A massive six man midfield unit controls the game. Jefte and Tav sit in the deep areas to shield the defence, while Raskin, the captain, acts as the main pivot to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Raskin, the captain, is tasked to receive on the half-turn and recycle possession to maintain control. Ahead of the pivot, Dio, Hagi, and Some rapid cunt play in the half spaces. These three advanced players press aggressively to trigger a press and hunt for turnovers in the middle third.

The attack relies on a two man partnership of Igamane and Cerny. Igamane plays as a pressing centre-forward to force the opposition into mistakes and win the second ball. Cerny works alongside him to hold up the ball and lay it off to the oncoming midfielders. This formation creates space for the midfielders to arrive late into the box, creating a constant threat through combinations in the final third.

Rangers gain a massive advantage through numerical superiority in midfield. Having six players in the center allows them to compress the midfield and deny the turn of any opposing playmaker. The ability to press in coordinated waves makes it very difficult for opponents to find space. This formation also allows the team to transition quickly once the ball is won high up the pitch.

This 2-6-2 formation is a high intensity system built for total central control. It is most effective against teams that try to play through the middle rather than using the wings.
