Thuram acts as a carrier to move the ball forward through the thirds, while Koopmeineirs looks to arrive late into the box to support the attack. This pairing must work hard to cover the space between the lines and protect the back five. They connect the defense to the front three by recycling possession or playing direct balls. This front three works to press the opposition back line and looks for runs in behind to break the lines. When they win the ball, they look to break quickly and attack the space behind the opposition full backs.

One major advantage is the ability to create wide overloads through the movement of Molina and Cambiaso alongside the wingers. The team also benefits from the compactness when defending, making it very hard for opponents to find space in the middle.
