Leeds Football Formation
Starting Lineup
ZENTNER (darlow/cairns) · BOGLE (walker-peters/schmidt) · MITTELSTADT (schmidt/lukumi) · BALERDI (rodon/ampadu) · LUKUMI (torunarigha/rodon) · AMPADU (morita/tanaka) · TANAKA (longstaff/fernandes) · JAMES (ramazani/gnonto) · SOLOMON (gnonto/ramazani) · BATURINA (fernandes/ramazani) · KLEINDIENST (piroe/gray?)Leeds looks to play a high press and quick transition game through a 4-3-3. This formation is built to win the ball high up the pitch and move it forward rapidly to catch the opposition out of position. By using a high line and aggressive positioning, the team looks to dominate the tempo through verticality and directness.
Zentner plays between the posts to start the build up. The back line functions as a flat back four where Bogle and Mittelstadt act as attacking full backs to provide width. Balerdi and Lukumi operate as the two central defenders, with Balerdi looking to cover the space while Lukumi can step up to intercept passes. This unit works to squeeze the space and keep the distance between the defense and midfield very tight.
In the middle of the pitch, the lineup uses a three-man midfield with a carrier to move the ball through the thirds. Ampadu sits in the left central role to shield the defense and win the second ball, while Tanaka operates in the right central spot to drive forward with the ball. Baturina plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, acting as the link to find the feet of the striker or play through the lines to the wingers.
The attack features three attackers across the front with James and Solomon providing the width. Solomon acts as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside and create chances, while James stays wider on the right to stretch the defense. Kleindienst operates as a lone striker and a pressing centre-forward, tasked to hold up the ball and pin the last defender to allow the midfielders to arrive late into the box.
Leeds offers several tactical advantages due to this setup. The team creates wide overloads from overlapping full backs like Bogle and Mittelstadt which pulls the opposition defenders out of position. There is also a strong ability to press high in coordinated waves, with Baturina and Kleindienst forcing long balls from the opposition. This creates high turnover opportunities in dangerous areas.
This 4-3-3 formation is designed for a team that wants to control the game through heavy pressure and rapid attacking movements. It is best suited for matches against opponents who struggle to play out from the back under intense pressure.
