Charlton Football Formation
Starting Lineup
jacob · sunny · solomon · nischal · jayden · dara · Alex C · Mamoudo · Christian · kamsi · alex LCharlton aims to play a heavy vertical game that prioritizes quick transitions and offensive pressure. This lineup utilizes a 2-5-3 formation designed to overwhelm the opposition in the final third through sheer numbers. The goal is to push players forward and use the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition defense.
In goal, jacob sits behind a very high defensive line. The back line consists of only two central defenders, sunny and solomon, who must act as covering defenders to sweep behind the high line. Because there are no full backs, sunny and solomon must be ready to defend large amounts of space if the ball is lost. They must stay compact and communicate to prevent runners from getting behind them while the rest of the team pushes up.
The midfield unit is massive and designed to control the center of the pitch. jayden and nischal act as a double pivot to shield the two center backs and win the second ball. dara operates as a central midfielder to connect the defense to the attack. On the flanks, Alex C and Mamoudo occupy the half spaces to provide service to the front line. This heavy midfield presence allows Charlton to compress the midfield and win possession high up the pitch.
The attacking unit uses three forwards to pin the last defender of the opposition. alex L plays as a lone striker, acting as a focal point to hold up the ball and link up with the runners. kamsi and Christian operate as wide wingers, with kamsi staying on the right and Christian on the left. They look to cut inside and create chances for alex L or arrive late into the box. The formation is built to create runs in behind and exploit gaps through the middle.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads and numerical superiority in the middle. By having five players in the central corridor, Charlton can easily win the ball back high up the pitch. The team also benefits from a high pressing intensity, using the three forwards and three central midfielders to trigger a press in coordinated waves. This makes it difficult for opponents to play out from the back.
Charlton relies on this aggressive setup to dominate games through offensive volume. This formation is best suited for matches where the team needs to chase a result against a side that sits deep.
