Starting Lineup

Czechia looks to overwhelm the opposition through a heavy central presence in a 2-6-2 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the middle of the pitch and use a massive midfield block to suffocate the opponent. By packing the center, the team seeks to control the ball and use high pressing to regain it quickly before the opposition can settle.

Cech stands between the posts to manage the defensive line. The back line is a narrow two man unit consisting of Ujfalusi and Rozehnal. Because there are only two central defenders, they must remain very disciplined and cover vast amounts of ground. Ujfalusi and Rozehnal must act as ball playing defenders who can quickly move the ball to the crowded midfield to start an attack. The defensive unit relies on the heavy midfield presence to stop any direct threats before they reach the final two defenders.

The midfield is a massive six man block designed to control every zone. Jankulovski and Galasek act as a double pivot to shield the two defenders and win the second ball. Grygera works alongside them to provide extra cover and help win possession in the middle. Further forward, Nedved, Rosicky, and Poborsky operate in the half spaces to link the defensive and attacking lines. Nedved uses his famous crossing and long range shooting to threaten from deep, while Rosicky works to find pockets of space to play through the lines. This heavy concentration of players in the middle allows the team to recycle possession constantly.

Czechia utilizes a front two in a partnership to lead the line. Koller acts as a target man, using his aerial strength to hold up the ball and win headers. Beside him, Baros plays as a pressing centre forward who looks to run in behind the defense. The attack is built by feeding these two through the massive midfield. While Koller holds the ball, the midfielders like Nedved and Poborsky can arrive late into the box to add numbers. The two forwards press the opposition back line to force a long ball that the midfield can then intercept.

One major advantage of this formation is the numerical superiority in midfield. By having six players in the middle, the team can easily outnumber most opponents and dominate the ball. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves because of the sheer volume of players in the center. This makes it very difficult for the opposition to play through the thirds without facing immediate pressure.

This heavy midfield formation is designed to squeeze the space and dominate possession. It is best suited for games against teams that sit deep and struggle to match a high volume of central players.
