Alongside him, calin and George work as two central midfielders to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Rares plays as an attacking ten behind the strikers, acting as the creative link to play through the lines. This group must press in a mid-block to prevent the opposition from playing out from the back.

Romania uses two forwards in a partnership to pressure the opposition back line. Irinel and Bila lead the line, with Irinel often looking to find the feet of the striker to link play. Bila can move into the channels to stretch the defense or stay central to hold up the ball. The team looks to use the width provided by the wide midfielders to whip it in or find the strikers with long balls. When the team wins the ball high up the pitch, they look to break quickly with runs in behind.

This formation offers several tactical advantages for Romania. The presence of Rares in the hole allows the team to create numerical superiority in the half spaces.
