Starting Lineup
Marchesin (Brey) · Acosta (Palomino) · Z.Romero (A.Franco / Figal) · Blanco (Vega) · Advincula (Barinaga) · Delgado (Herrera) · Vera (Bataglia) · M.Moreno (Velasco / Zenon) · Villa (Aguirre) · Mazzanti (Rigoni) · Merentiel (Gimenez)Boca looks to overwhelm the opposition with a high press and verticality in a 2-4-4. This lineup focuses on heavy attacking pressure and quick transitions to catch the opponent out of position. The aim is to pin the opposition back and use heavy numbers in the final third to force mistakes.
Marchesin acts as the lone goalkeeper behind a very narrow defensive unit. Z.Romero and Acosta form a two man back line that must stay high to squeeze the space. Because there are only two central defenders, they must be ready to cover wide areas and intercept long balls. They focus on winning the second ball and clearing the lines quickly when the press is bypassed.
The midfield operates as a flat four to bridge the gap between the defense and the front line. Delgado and Vera occupy the central roles, where they must work to win the ball back high up the pitch and protect the two center backs. Blanco and Advincula play as wide midfielders who provide the necessary width. Advincula and Blanco push high to support the wingers, while they must also track back to help the two defenders when the team loses possession.
The attacking unit is incredibly aggressive with four players positioned to attack. M.Moreno and Merentiel operate as two central forwards, often working together to pin the last defender and fight for headers. Villa and Mazzanti stay wide to stretch the defence and create space in the middle. Villa and Mazzanti look to cut inside or deliver crosses into the box to find the two strikers. This combination allows Boca to attack in waves and keep the pressure on the opponent's back line.
This formation offers significant advantages through numerical superiority in the attacking third. By committing so many players forward, Boca can create overloads that force the opposition into deep defensive blocks. The speed of transition is a key strength, as the team can move from a defensive stance to a full attacking wave in seconds.
Boca uses this high risk lineup to dominate games through sheer attacking volume. It is best suited for situations where the team needs to break down a parked bus or when playing against an opponent that struggles to handle intense pressure.
