Roma aims to control games through a high press and quick transitions using a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to use width and verticality to stretch the opposition defense. The tactical identity focuses on winning the ball high up the pitch to catch teams out of position.

Rui Patricio stays between the posts to organize the defensive line. A back three forms the base with Hummels as the captain and central figure who uses his aerial strength and reading of the game to lead the unit. Smalling acts as the right centre-back to provide cover, while Lombaerts sits on the left to complete the three man line. The defenders work together to squeeze the space and hold a high line to keep the team compact.

The midfield works in a four man block to connect the defense to the attack. Gonalons sits in a central role to shield the defense and win the second ball. Wijnaldum operates in the other central area to carry the ball forward and press aggressively to win the ball back. On the flanks, Dszudszak and Tabanou act as wide midfielders who provide width. They are tasked to track back when out of possession and push up to support the front three.

In the attacking third, Roma utilizes three forwards to pin the opposition back line. Gomis acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and provide a central presence. Jara and Školnik operate as wide attackers to create chances. Jara stays on the left to cut inside, while Školnik works on the right to find space. This front line presses from the front to force a long ball from the opposition and creates runs in behind to exploit gaps.

This formation offers Roma several tactical advantages. The presence of Hummels provides stability to win headers and clear the lines during pressure. Having Dszudszak and Tabanou allows for wide overloads when they overlap the wingers. The team can also achieve numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch when the wide midfielders tuck in to support Gonalons and Wijnaldum.

Roma relies on this 3-4-3 to dominate games through pressing and width. This lineup is best suited for facing teams that play with a high defensive line or struggle to handle wide runners.
