Nacional focuses on heavy verticality and aggressive pressing with a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the central areas and force turnovers high up the pitch. By pushing many players forward, the team looks to overwhelm the opposition through direct attacking waves and high intensity.

Mauro Silveira acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back line consists of a narrow two man unit with Lucas Monzón and Maizon Rodríguez. These two central defenders must play in a high line to keep the team compact. They are required to cover large amounts of space behind them and win the second ball when the opposition attempts to bypass the midfield. Because there are only two defenders, they must be dominant in the air and quick to intercept long balls.

The midfield is the engine room for Nacional, utilizing a five man unit to control the center. José Álvarez and Kevin Amaro form a central pairing that helps to control the tempo and connect the defensive and attacking lines. Agustín Amado acts as a carrier to drive the ball forward. On the flanks, Nicolás Fernández and Walter Núñez act as wide midfielders who can push high to support the attack or drop back to assist the defense. This group works to squeeze the space in the middle and win the ball back high up the pitch.

The attacking front line uses three players to stretch the opposition. Diogo de Oliveira operates as a lone striker to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. On the wings, Agustín Moreira and Nicolás Ferreira act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create scoring chances. This front three is designed to press the opposition back line and create runs in behind. They look to move in combinations to split the defence with a through ball or isolate wide players in one on one situations.

This formation offers several tactical advantages, especially when playing with high intensity. The five man midfield creates numerical superiority in the center, making it hard for opponents to move the ball through the thirds. Additionally, the wide players allow the team to spread wide and create overloads in the final third. The ability to press in coordinated waves makes Nacional very dangerous during transitions.

Nacional employs a high risk, high reward system that relies on aggressive ball winning. This formation is best suited for matches where the team needs to dominate possession and force the opponent into mistakes.
