Iran focuses on a high press and quick verticality through a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup seeks to pin the opposition deep and use the intensity of the front four to win the ball high up the pitch. By playing with such a heavy attacking presence, the team aims to catch opponents in transition and strike before they can settle into a defensive block.

A. Haghighi stays between the posts to command the area and organize the defensive line. The back four consists of Montazeri on the right and Pooladi on the left, who both need to hold the line and track back when the team loses possession. In the middle, Sadeghi and Hosseini act as the central defenders, with Sadeghi focusing on covering space while Hosseini uses his presence to win the header during set pieces. This defensive unit must stay compact to prevent being bypassed by long balls.

The midfield operates as a double pivot to provide some security behind the heavy attack. Javad Nekounam (C) sits in the deeper role to shield the defense, using his passing range to distribute the ball effectively. Teymourian works alongside him, tasked to drive forward with the ball and connect the defensive and attacking lines. This pair must be disciplined to ensure they do not get caught too high, as they are the only players occupying the center of the pitch.

The attacking front line is composed of four players designed to stretch the defence. Dejagah and Heydari occupy the wide areas as inverted wingers, cutting inside to create goal scoring chances or deliver a cross. Hajisafi and Ghoochannejhad operate as the two forwards, looking to find the feet of the striker or make runs in behind the opposition back line. This front four works to press from the front, forcing the opponent to play long and allowing the Iran players to win the second ball.

This 4-2-4 formation offers significant tactical advantages, particularly in creating wide overloads when the wingers and full backs combine. The team also benefits from the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for opponents to play out from the back. This setup allows Iran to quickly transition from a mid-block into a direct attacking threat.

This formation is built to overwhelm opponents through sheer offensive volume and high intensity. It is best suited for games where the team needs to chase a result against a side that sits deep.
