Starting Lineup

STILLER · SOMMER · BASTONI · BISSECK · MILITAO · BARELLA · DUMFRIES · DIMARCO · RICCI · ENDRICK · LAUTARO

Inter focuses on a high press and quick verticality through a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and use the central areas to move forward rapidly. The team works to squeeze the space in the middle to force a long ball from the opposition.

Sommer commands the area from goal to organize the defense. Militao provides strength to win the header and covers the central zone. Bastoni acts as a ball playing defender who can play short from the back and use his passing range to break the line. Bisseck holds the right side of the defense to keep the unit compact. The defensive unit is designed to defend zonally and hold a narrow defensive block when the ball is on the opposite flank.

Barella, Stiller, and Ricci form the central trio. Within this group, Barella is known for his pressing intensity and his ability to drive forward with the ball. Stiller works to recycle possession and provides a link between the defense and the attack. Ricci helps to shield the defense and pick up runners in the middle. Collectively, they work to win the second ball and press aggressively to win it back high up the pitch.

In the final third, Inter uses a partnership of Lautaro and Endrick. Lautaro acts as a pressing centre-forward to pin the last defender and harass the ball carrier. Width is provided by the wing backs, Dimarco and Dumfries. Dimarco pulls wide to whip it in and find the feet of the striker, while Dumfries looks to overlap the winger to deliver crosses on the run. These movements create many chances to hit in behind on the transition or play one-two combinations in tight spaces.

A major strength of this Inter Milan formation is the numerical superiority in midfield that allows them to control the center of the pitch. Wide overloads from Dimarco and Dumfries can stretch the defence. Pressing in coordinated waves makes it very difficult for opponents to play out from the back.

This 3-5-2 formation provides a hard to beat identity centered on central control and aggressive pressing. It is ideally suited for matches against teams that rely on possession and struggle with high intensity in the middle.
