The front three provides constant threats across the width of the pitch. Cristiano Ronaldo plays on the left, cutting inside to use his pace and clinical finishing. Michel González stretches the defence on the right, while Karim Benzema leads the line as the striker. Benzema works to hold up the ball and link up play with the advancing midfielders. This front line is designed to create runs in behind and force the opposition defence to sit deep.

Real Madrid finds success through numerical superiority in the midfield. Having five players centrally allows the team to control the tempo and create overloads in the final third to split the defence.
