Real Madrid plays with a vertical and aggressive identity using a 3-5-2 formation. The team looks to control the middle of the pitch before hitting the opposition with quick transitions. This formation allows the squad to stay compact while maintaining the ability to spread wide through the wing backs to stretch the defence.

Courtois acts as the last line of defence in goal. The defensive line uses a back three with Marin sitting in the center to anchor the unit. Asencio operates as the right centre-back while Huijsen plays as the left centre-back to cover the wide areas and step up to meet attackers. These three defenders work to defend zonally and prevent runners from getting behind the line. The unit stays compact to ensure the space between the defenders and the midfield remains small.

The midfield functions as a five man block to control the game. Stiller acts as the deep lying playmaker to recycle possession and protect the back three. Bellingham and Nico Paz operate in the central areas to connect the defence and the attack. Bellingham uses his driving runs to carry the ball forward into the final third, while Nico Paz looks to play through the lines. On the flanks, Trent and Carreras push up as attacking wing backs to provide constant width. Trent is known for his crossing and ability to switch play, while Carreras provides energy to support the left side.

In the attacking phase, Real Madrid uses a two man partnership. Mbappe plays as a left sided forward, using his immense speed to run in behind the defence. Gyokeres operates as the right sided striker to hold up the ball and allow others to join the attack. The wing backs, Trent and Carreras, overlap the wide players to create numerical superiority in the wide areas. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball and win the ball back high up the pitch.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads. By having Trent and Carreras push high, the team can isolate one on one situations for their attackers. Another strength is the numerical superiority in midfield, which allows the team to win the second ball and control the tempo. The combination of a solid back three and a crowded midfield makes it difficult for opponents to play through the middle.

This 3-5-2 formation is built for teams that want to dominate the central zones while using wing backs to attack. It works best against opponents who play a narrow formation and struggle to track runners from deep.
