The midfield consists of a double pivot featuring Glushakov and Fayzulin. This duo is responsible for shielding the defence and providing a link to the attacking players. Glushakov often drives forward with the ball to carry it into the half spaces, while Fayzulin works to recycle possession and pass through the lines. They must remain compact to deny the pivot of the opposition and win the second ball when the ball is lost. This midfield duo must be disciplined to cover the space left by the advancing full backs.

Russia utilizes four attackers to create constant pressure on the opposing back line. Zhirkov and Samedov play as wide wingers to spread the play and stretch the defence. Zhirkov often looks to cut inside to create chances, whereas Samedov aims to get to the byline and whip it in. In the center, Shatov and Kokorin lead the line as a strike partnership. One of them will hold up the ball to allow the others to arrive late into the box, while the other focuses on runs in behind.

The tactical strengths of this lineup include the ability to create wide overloads by pushing the full backs up to support the wingers. The formation also allows Russia to press in coordinated waves to win the ball high up the pitch.
