Starting Lineup

PSG intends to play with a high press and rapid transitions using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup aims to win the ball high up the pitch and hit the opposition in behind with speed. The system relies on wide players and wing backs to stretch the defence and create space for the central attackers.

TBA stays between the posts to command the area while the defensive unit holds a compact shape. The back line functions as a back three with Zealous acting as the central defender to sweep behind the line and win the second ball. Walker sits as the right center back to cover the space, while Flack plays as the left center back to defend zonally. Carlos and Cole act as attacking wing backs, pushing high to provide width and delivering crosses when they find space. This defensive block can sit deep or step up to squeeze the space between the lines.

The midfield operates as a double pivot with Woodsy and Atkin working to control the middle. Woodsy functions as a carrier to drive forward with the ball and connect the defence to the attack. Atkin works to shield the defence and intercept passes to prevent central breakthroughs. They must work together to compress the midfield and ensure they do not get bypassed by opposition runners. This pair manages the tempo and recycled possession to move the team from a defensive block into an attacking phase.

PSG utilizes three attackers across the front to pin the last defender. Norton plays as a pressing centre forward to lead the line and find the feet of the striker. Sung and Sezca operate as wide wingers who cut inside to create central threats. Sung stays on the left to stretch the play, while Sezca stays on the right to look for one on one situations. The front three press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition back line.

One major advantage for PSG is the ability to create wide overloads through the movement of Carlos and Cole. Their high positioning allows the team to overwhelm the flanks during the attacking phase. Another strength is the speed of transition when Woodsy or Atkin wins the ball and quickly finds the front three. This allows the team to counter at pace before the opposition can get organized.

This 5-2-3 formation provides a strong defensive base with the ability to explode forward on the break. It is best suited for matches against teams that play a high line and leave space behind their defenders.
