PSG Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Júnior · Gerald · Fabricio · Jairo · jefry · Aníbal · sven · Isaías · Elías · geovanny · IrvinPSG relies on a heavy defensive presence and quick transitions through a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and remain compact while looking to strike quickly when the opposition leaves space behind. The team aims to stay solid in the middle of the pitch to force opponents into wide areas before breaking on the counter.
Júnior guards the goal as the last line of defense. The back line works as a back five with Aníbal sitting in the center to command the area. Fabricio acts as the right centre back to cover space, while Gerald operates as the left centre back to defend the central zone. Jairo and jefry play as attacking wing backs, tasked with providing width and running the flanks. This defensive unit must remain disciplined to keep a narrow defensive block when the team is without the ball.
A three man midfield controls the center of the pitch. Isaías plays in the middle to shield the defense and win the second ball. To his sides, sven and Elías act as the engines to connect the defensive and attacking lines. sven looks to carry the ball forward, while Elías works to recycle possession and move the ball from side to side. This group must press in a mid block to stop the opposition from playing through the lines.
The attack features two forwards working in a partnership. geovanny operates as a lone striker on the left, while Irvin plays as the second striker. They work together to hold up the ball and wait for the wing backs to join the play. When PSG wins the ball, Jairo and jefry push high to create overlaps and stretch the defense. geovanny and Irvin focus on making runs in behind to exploit the space left by the opposition.
One major advantage for PSG is the ability to create wide overloads when Jairo and jefry move forward. This forces the opposition to deal with extra numbers on the wings. Another strength is the compactness when defending, as the five defenders and three midfielders can squeeze the space to deny the turn of any attacking player. The formation also allows for a very fast speed of transition once the ball is recovered in the middle.
This 5-3-2 formation provides a very solid base for teams that want to defend deep. It is best suited for matches against teams that dominate possession and require a disciplined low block to frustrate them.
