Inter Football Formation
Starting Lineup
CARNESECCHI · BISSECK · BASTONI · FRATTESI · TONALI · CAMAVINGA · NICO WILLIAMS · RUDIGER · LAUTARO · BRAHIM DIAZ · HENRIQUEInter aims to play a high press and vertical game through a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup focuses on winning the ball high up the pitch and moving it forward quickly to catch the opposition out of position. By using a heavy midfield presence, the team intends to control the middle of the pitch and use the width provided by the wing backs to stretch the defence.
CARNESECCHI stays between the posts to guard the goal. The defensive line consists of a back three featuring BISSECK, RUDIGER, and BASTONI. RUDIGER acts as the central defender, using his aerial strength to win headers and clear the lines. BASTONI plays as a ball playing centre back who can pass through the lines from the left. BISSECK provides cover on the right side of the central trio to keep the line compact. The unit works to hold a high line and trigger a press when the ball enters their zone.
The midfield works through a three man midfield with a single pivot. CAMAVINGA sits in front of the defence to shield the back three and intercept passes. TONALI drives forward with the ball to progress through the thirds and connect the lines. FRATTESI plays alongside him, looking to arrive late into the box to score. On the flanks, HENRIQUE and NICO WILLIAMS provide the necessary width. They are tasked to push up and overlap the winger when the team has possession.
Inter attacks with a front two in a partnership. LAUTARO acts as a pressing centre forward to pin the last defender and force a long ball. BRAHIM DIAZ plays as a second striker in the hole, looking to receive on the half turn and play a one two with his partner. The attack relies on the wing backs, HENRIQUE and NICO WILLIAMS, to get to the byline and cut it back for the central players. This movement creates runs in behind and allows the forwards to combine in tight spaces.
This formation offers clear advantages like numerical superiority in midfield. Having CAMAVINGA, TONALI, and FRATTESI allows the team to control the central area and recycle possession easily. The ability to press high in coordinated waves forces the opposition to make mistakes. Additionally, the speed of transition allows the team to hit in behind on the transition when the ball is won back high up the pitch.
The 3-5-2 formation provides a heavy presence in the middle and width on the flanks. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to deal with high pressure or leave space between their midfield and defensive lines.
