Platense relies on a defensive identity to control games, primarily utilizing a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built to stay compact and play on the counter attack once the ball is won. The team focuses on maintaining a low block to deny the opposition space in the middle of the pitch. By staying deep, the players aim to force a long ball from the opponent rather than allowing through balls.

Cozzi acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back five features Esperon as the central pillar, while Menéndez and Mazzini occupy the wide centre back positions to provide cover. Bellini and Erbín operate as attacking wing backs, tasked with pushing high to provide width during transitions. When the team sits deep, the defenders form a narrow defensive block to protect the central area. Menéndez and Mazzini look to win the header and clear the lines during periods of heavy pressure.

The midfield functions as a three-man unit designed to link the defence and attack. Morelli and Espina sit in front of the back five to shield the defence and win the second ball. Playing in the hole as an attacking ten, Petti looks to connect the lines. To protect the flanks, Morelli and Espina work to intercept passes and shift to cover the space left by the advancing wing backs. This allows Petti to receive on the half-turn and play through the lines to find the forwards.

In the attacking phase, Platense uses two forwards in a partnership consisting of Vega and Garro. Both Vega and Garro often drop deep or make runs in behind to stretch the defence. Width comes from Bellini and Erbín, who push up to overlap the midfield. Such movement allows the team to deliver a cross from the byline or find the strikers in space. Every attack relies on quick transitions to hit the opposition before they can get organized.

One major advantage for Platense is the compactness when defending in a low block. Tight spacing between the five defenders and the three midfielders makes it very difficult for opponents to find passing lanes. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads as Bellini and Erbín move forward. These runs force the opposing wingers to track back and can leave the opposition's back line vulnerable to quick attacks.
