Starting Lineup

Prioritizing rapid transitions and attacking width, PSG utilizes a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup focuses on being a vertical team that looks to exploit space as soon as the ball is won. By using a large defensive unit, the team aims to remain solid and then move the ball quickly to the front three to catch opponents out of position.

Marky sits between the posts to guard the goal. The defensive unit relies on a back three consisting of BQ, Zealous, and Flack. BQ and Flack act as wide centre-backs to cover the flanks, while Zealous remains central to win headers and command the area. In front of them, Walker and Cole operate as attacking wing backs. Walker pushes high to provide width on the right, while Cole makes runs to overlap on the left. This defensive unit works to hold a line and then squeeze the space when the opposition has the ball.

The midfield functions as a double pivot with Krazzy and Woodsy. These two players are responsible for connecting the defence to the attack. Krazzy and Woodsy must work hard to cover the central zone and protect the back three. They act as the engine room, with one player often dropping deeper to help play out from the back while the other looks to drive forward and carry the ball into the middle third. Their main job is to win the second ball and recycle possession to the wide areas.

PSG attacks with three forwards working in close combination. Norton acts as the lone striker, playing as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition defenders. On the wings, Fiz and Sezca act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goalscoring chances. As Fiz and Sezca move into the half spaces, Walker and Cole provide the necessary width to stretch the defence. This movement creates space for Norton to find pockets of room or for the wingers to receive the ball in one on one situations.

This formation offers several tactical advantages for PSG. The presence of three central defenders provides great compactness when defending deep. The use of Cole and Walker allows for wide overloads, making it difficult for the opposition to track all the runners. Furthermore, the team can transition at pace by moving the ball from the midfield pivot straight to the front three, catching the opposition before they can reset.
