Starting Lineup

Chile aims to play a vertical game that looks to exploit spaces in transition using a 4-3-3. This formation is built to press high and move the ball quickly to the wide areas to stretch the opposition. CORTEZ guards the goal and organizes the back line from deep. The defensive unit works as a flat back four where MARIPÁN and DÍAZ act as the central pair. SUAZO and HORMAZABAL operate as full backs, looking to push up the flanks to support the attack, though they must track back quickly when possession is lost.

The midfield operates as a three-man midfield with a carrier and a sitting player. ECHEVERRÍA sits in front of the defence to shield the back four and win the second ball. To his side, LOYOLA and PIZARRO operate as the two more advanced midfielders. PIZARRO acts as the primary engine to carry the ball forward and link the defence to the attack, while LOYOLA focuses on recycling possession and finding the feet of the attackers.

Up front, Chile uses three attackers across the front to pin the opposition defence. Ben operates as a pressing centre-forward to harass the ball carriers and hold up the ball for others. On the wings, OSORIO and CEPEDA act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create central overloads. This movement creates space for SUAZO and HORMAZABAL to overlap the winger and deliver crosses into the box.

This formation offers Chile the ability to press high in coordinated waves to win the ball back high up the pitch. The movement of the wingers allows the team to create wide overloads, which can isolate a one-on-one wide situation for the attackers. Having PIZARRO drive forward also allows the team to break the line quickly during transitions.
