Starting Lineup

Esposito · Thuram · Dum · Biss · Leoni · Basto · Cambiaso · Bare · Frattesi · Zielo · Sommer

Inter focuses on a high press and quick transitions using a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup seeks to control the center of the pitch while maintaining enough bodies to react to any loss of possession. The team works to win the ball high up the pitch to catch the opponent out of position.

Sommer acts as the goalkeeper, sweeping behind a high line to protect the space when the defenders step up. The back three consists of Leoni, Biss, and Basto, who defend zonally to cover the width of the area. Basto and Leoni stay narrow to protect the middle, while Biss provides cover on the right. This unit works to hold a compact shape when the team drops into a mid-block to deny space between the lines.

The midfield is a five man unit built to control the game. Zielo and Cambiaso form a double pivot to shield the defence and recycle possession. Dum, Bare, and Frattesi operate in the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Dum and Frattesi work to press aggressively to win the ball high, while Bare looks to carry the ball forward and find the feet of the striker. This midfield core works to compress the midfield and prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.

Inter uses two forwards in a partnership to stretch the defence. Esposito plays as a pressing centre forward, while Thuram works as a mobile striker who can drop into the hole to link up play. They look to make runs in behind to exploit any gaps left by the opposition back line. The attackers often combine in tight spaces to pull defenders out of position, allowing the midfielders to arrive late into the box.

One tactical advantage is the numerical superiority in midfield, which allows Inter to dominate the ball and control the tempo. The formation also provides great flexibility to shift between shapes, turning into a five man back line when defending deep. This makes the team very hard to break down in central areas.

This 3-5-2 formation relies on intense pressing and quick ball movement to overwhelm opponents. It is best suited for games against teams that play with a high line or struggle to control the central areas of the pitch.
