They must hold the line carefully to avoid being caught by long balls.

The midfield provides the engine for the team. VAN BOMMEL plays as a single pivot to shield the defence and recycle possession. SCHWEINSTEIGER operates as an attacking ten behind the strikers, looking to find the feet of the strikers or play through the lines. LAHM and BADSTUBER occupy the wide areas of the midfield. LAHM often carries the ball forward to support the attack, while BADSTUBER works to press in a mid block and connect the defensive and attacking lines.

The attack uses four players to stretch the defence. ROBBEN plays as an inverted winger on the right, known for his dribbling style, and will frequently cut inside. ALTINTOP stays on the left to provide width and whip it in. OLIC and MULLER work as a two man partnership in the center. OLIC acts as a pressing centre forward to force a long ball, while MULLER finds space to arrive late into the box. They look to combine in tight spaces and use overlaps to create chances.

This formation offers massive numerical superiority in the attacking third. By committing four players forward, FC Bayern can create wide overloads and force the opposition to defend deep. The speed of transition is a major advantage, as they can move from a recovery to an attack instantly. This lineup also allows the team to press high in coordinated waves to win it back high up the pitch.
