Starting Lineup

PSG aims to play a high intensity, vertical game that relies on overwhelming the opposition with numbers in the final third through a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup focuses on rapid transitions and direct play to catch the defense out of position. The goal is to move the ball quickly from the back to the front to maximize attacking chances.

Riley stays between the posts to manage the defensive line. The back four functions as a flat back four, where Ferguson acts as the right back and Fergal operates as the left back. These wide defenders need to stay disciplined to prevent counter attacks. In the center, Mini and Tekky form the core of the defense, tasked to defend zonally and win the second ball. Tekky and Mini must be ready to step up to squeeze the space when the team presses high, while Riley provides cover behind them.

The midfield operates as a double pivot to provide a base for the attack. Sunlord and Josh are responsible for the middle ground, where they must hold the line when the team loses possession. Sunlord works to shield the defense and win back possession, while Josh looks to carry the ball forward and connect the defensive unit to the front line. They must work hard to cover the ground left behind by the advancing full backs to ensure the center remains compact.

PSG utilizes four attackers to pin the last defender and stretch the defense. Eyxd and Jack occupy the wide areas as wingers, with Jack positioned on the right and Eyxd on the left. They look to cut inside to create space for the full backs or to deliver crosses into the box. Marcus and Jmz act as two forwards in a partnership, playing close to each other to create combinations. Marcus and Jmz will push the opposition back line high and look for runs in behind to exploit gaps in the defense.

This formation offers significant advantages in terms of attacking numbers and speed of transition. By playing with four forwards, PSG can create wide overloads and isolate wide players in one on one situations. The presence of Marcus and Jmz allows the team to win the second ball in the final third, while the double pivot of Sunlord and Josh provides a platform to recycle possession quickly.

The 4-2-4 lineup is built for a high pressing, attacking style of football. It is best suited for games where PSG needs to break down a deep defensive block through sheer volume of attacks.
