FC Bayern focuses on a direct and vertical way of playing using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to kill teams in transition and use speed to break lines. The goal is to win the ball and move it forward quickly to exploit gaps between the opposition lines.

David Raya acts as the last line of defense in goal. The defensive unit uses a back three with Declan Rice acting as a central defender to sweep behind a high line. Saliba provides aerial strength and dominance in the air at right centre-back, while Kim Min Jae plays as the left centre-back to cover the wide areas. The wing backs provide much of the width, with Davies acting as an attacking wing back on the left and Rugider operating as the right wing back to stretch the defence.

The midfield functions as a double pivot with Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka in the center. Kimmich works to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often dropping deep to recycle possession and find the feet of the attackers. Goretzka acts as a carrier to drive forward with the ball and makes late runs into the box to support the front line. This pair must work hard to squeeze the space when the team defends in a mid-block.

In the final third, the attack uses three players across the front. Musiala plays as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line and link up play between the lines. Saka operates as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside and create chances, while Desire Doue plays on the right wing to pull wide and provide service. This front three is designed to create runs in behind and isolate defenders in one on one situations.

FC Bayern offers significant tactical advantages through this setup. The team can create wide overloads when Davies and Rugider push high to support the wingers. The formation also allows for great speed of transition, as the ball can move quickly from the back three to the front three to catch an opponent out of position.

This 5-2-3 formation is a high tempo system designed to punish teams that play with a high line. It is best suited for games where the opponent leaves large spaces behind their defenders.
