Focusing on defensive solidity and quick transitions, Ajax employs a 5-4-1. This lineup is built to sit deep and absorb pressure before hitting the opposition on the break. PANTERA guards the goal as the last line of defense. The defensive unit operates with a back five that includes IPPO in the center of the defense. VALKANDES and XDRED act as wide centre-backs to provide cover on the flanks. DEVIVO and KOSKY play as attacking wing backs, tasked to push high up the pitch to provide width. The defensive line will drop deep to deny space behind, while IPPO works to win the second ball and XDRED focuses on covering the space.

The midfield functions as a flat line of four to protect the center. RESN acts as the single pivot to shield the defense and intercept passes. ERD, YURKYU, and MAUURYY occupy the central and half-space areas to connect the defense to the attack. MAUURYY and YURKYU can press aggressively to win the ball back high up the pitch, while ERD helps to recycle possession. This unit works to squeeze the space between the lines and deny the opponent time on the ball.

MIRIKO leads the line as a lone striker, acting as a focal point for the attack. The striker must hold up the ball to allow the midfield to move up the pitch. When Ajax win the ball, the team looks to hit in behind the defense quickly. DEVIVO and KOSKY provide the necessary width by overlapping the midfield, while MIRIKO looks to receive the ball or run into the channels. The attack relies on the speed of transition to catch the opponent out of position.

This 5-4-1 offers significant tactical advantages through compactness when defending. By keeping the lines close, Ajax makes it difficult for opponents to play through the lines.
