Unión (SF) Football Formation
Starting Lineup
DALMAZO · ALVAREZ · LOVATTO · MONTIEL · RIOS · BALTIERI · CHAPARRO · CHAPARRO · ZUBARAN · TRONCOSO · FERNANDEZPrioritising defensive solidity and quick transitions, Unión (SF) employs a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup focuses on maintaining a compact block to deny space between the lines while remaining ready to hit the opposition on the break. The team looks to use the width provided by the wing backs to stretch the play once possession is won.
Dalmazo starts in goal to command the area. The defensive unit relies on a back three consisting of Baltieri, Lovatto, and Montiel. Baltieri acts as the central anchor to protect the middle, while Lovatto and Montiel cover the channels. On the flanks, Rios and Alvarez operate as attacking wing backs. They provide the necessary width and are tasked to push high up the pitch to support the attack. This five man unit can drop into a low block to defend the box or step up to squeeze the space.
The midfield functions as a three man midfield with a carrier to link play. Chaparro operates on both sides of the central area to provide energy and ball progression. Zubaran plays in the hole as an attacking ten, looking to find pockets of space between the opponent's midfield and defense. Chaparro helps to shield the defense and win the second ball, while Zubaran works to create chances by playing through the lines. This group must work hard to press in a mid-block and prevent the opposition from playing short from the back.
Up front, the team uses two forwards in a partnership. Troncoso and Fernandez work together to lead the line. They are expected to press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. The two strikers use their movement to create runs in behind or to hold up the ball for the advancing midfielders. When the wing backs overlap, Troncoso and Fernandez often move into central positions to occupy the defenders, allowing for cutbacks from the byline.
Unión (SF) gains a significant advantage through their ability to create wide overloads when Rios and Alvarez push forward. This formation also offers great compactness when defending, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. The speed of transition allows the team to move from a deep defensive position to an attacking one in seconds, catching the opposition off guard.
This 5-3-2 formation provides a reliable platform for teams that want to stay hard to beat and strike on the break. It is best suited for matches against possession heavy teams where sitting deep and hitting in behind on the transition is required.
