Cunha and Mbeumo act as inverted wingers who cut inside to threaten the goal. This movement creates space for the wing backs to spread wide and deliver crosses. The front three aim to hit in behind on the transition to catch the defense out of position. They look to play one-twos in tight spaces to break the line.

The formation offers several tactical advantages. It provides width from the wing backs while keeping the central area very tight. The team can use the speed of transition to move from a low block to an attacking phase in seconds.
