Starting Lineup

Bot 1 · Rafa T · Andrey · Darplayin · Bot 2 · Berna · Ulloa · Plebe · Emi · Casas · Mamando

Atlético aims to dominate through a hard to beat defensive block and quick transitions using a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup relies on staying compact to deny space in the middle before looking to hit teams on the break. The goal is to maintain a solid shape that forces opponents into low percentage areas.

Bot operates between the posts to command the area. The back line stays close together as a flat back four to deny through balls. Darplayin and Bot act as the central defenders, tasked to win the header and clear the lines when under pressure. Andrey provides width on the left as a full back, while Rafa T holds the right side to help when the team must defend in a mid-block.

The midfield unit functions as a dense five man group to control the center of the pitch. Berna and Ulloa work as a double pivot to shield the defence and win the second ball. Casas and Plebe operate in the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while Emi works to press aggressively to win the ball high. This group shifts side to side to close gaps and ensure the opponent cannot play through the lines easily.

Mamando works as a lone striker to lead the line. He must hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to move forward. The wide midfielders work to stretch the defence, often looking to carry the ball forward or deliver a cross on the run. When the team wins possession, the forwards look to hit in behind on the transition to catch the opposition before they can reset.

One major advantage for Atlético is the ability to press in a mid-block with coordinated waves. The density of the midfield makes it very difficult for opponents to find passing lanes. Additionally, the team is built for speed of transition, allowing them to move from a defensive state to an attacking one in seconds.

This 4-5-1 formation is built to be defensively solid and lethal on the break. It is best suited for matches against teams that hold high possession and leave space behind their back line.
