Ayr United utilizes two forwards in a partnership of Dowds and Oakley. Dowds acts as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line, while Oakley works to find spaces and make runs in behind. The attack is built through quick passes to the wingers, allowing New Winger or Murphy to deliver crosses into the box. The duo of Dowds and Oakley often combine in tight spaces to pull defenders out of position, creating space for late runs from the midfield.

One major tactical advantage is the ability to win the second ball in the middle of the pitch through the work of Dempsey and Rus. The team also uses wide overloads from the full backs and wingers to create situations where they can whip it in to the strikers. This formation allows the team to compress the midfield quickly when they lose possession, making it difficult for the opponent to play through the lines.
