Inter Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Sommer · Bastoni · Bisseck · Coppola · Barella · Lucca · Lautaro · Thuram · Caceido · Dumfries · Miguel GutierrezInter relies on a heavy high press and verticality through a 3-5-2. This formation focuses on winning the ball high up the pitch and hitting the opposition quickly in transition. The Inter lineup aims to control the middle of the pitch while using the width provided by the wing backs to stretch the defence.
Sommer stays between the posts to command his area and sweep behind a high line when the team pushes forward. The back three consists of Bisseck as the right center back, Bastoni as the central ball playing defender, and Coppola as the left center back. Bastoni uses his passing range to start attacks from the back while Bisseck and Coppola hold a high line to squeeze the space. The unit works together to defend zonally and ensure they are never caught out when the team commits bodies forward.
The midfield operates with a central trio and two players in the half spaces to dominate the center. Caceido acts as the deep lying playmaker pairing to shield the defence, while Barella drives forward with the ball to link the lines. Dumfries and Miguel Gutierrez act as the wide midfielders who provide the width, with Dumfries often making late runs into the box. Thuram plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find the feet of the forwards and play through the lines. This midfield group is designed to recycle possession and win the second ball to keep the pressure on.
The attack utilizes a two man partnership in the front line. Lautaro acts as a pressing centre forward to harass the opposition back line, while Lucca plays as the second striker to find pockets of space. The team builds play through the wide areas, looking to whip it in or deliver early balls to the two strikers. When attacking, the wing backs push high to overlap the attackers, creating situations to isolate wide players in one on one battles or to play a one two in the final third.
Inter offers significant tactical advantages through their ability to press high in coordinated waves. The presence of Barella and Thuram allows the team to win it back high up the pitch and transition at pace. The formation also provides numerical superiority in midfield, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle.
This 3-5-2 formation is built to overwhelm opponents through intense pressing and rapid vertical movements. It is best suited for games where the team needs to dominate territory and force a long ball from the opposition.
