Starting Lineup

FC Bayern focuses on a high press and rapid vertical play using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the pitch by crowding the central areas and hunting the ball high up the pitch. Manuel Neuer starts the defense from the goal. The back line consists of only two central defenders, Tymoschuk and Boateng, who must play a high line to keep the team compact. Schweinsteiger sits in the middle to connect the defense to the attack, using his passing range to move the ball forward. Kroos operates in the left half space to create chances, while Muller works in the right half space to find pockets of space. This midfield group works to squeeze the space and prevent the opponent from playing through the middle.

In the final third, FC Bayern employs three attackers to stretch the defense. Ribery plays as an inverted winger on the left, often cutting inside to create room for Kroos. On the right, Robben plays as an inverted winger who loves to cut inside on his left foot to shoot or cross. Gomes acts as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and find the feet of the attackers. The wingers often look to isolate defenders one on one to create goal scoring opportunities.

This formation offers significant advantages in central dominance and pressing. By using five midfielders, FC Bayern can create numerical superiority in the middle of the park to win the second ball.
