Celta prefers to play with a direct and aggressive identity through a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and hit the opposition quickly in transition. By using a heavy defensive block that can shift into a front three, Celta looks to create chaos in the final third while staying compact behind the ball.

Radu acts as the last line of defense in goal. The defensive unit operates as a back five with Carl holding the central position to win the header and command the area. Javi covers the right side as the right centre-back while Marcos Carlos Unai occupies the left side of the central trio. Min Sergio Rueda operates as the left wing back to provide width and track back when needed. Rist Cervi Manu plays as the right wing back to help push the team up the pitch. This grouping allows the team to sit deep or step up as a single unit to manage space.

The midfield works as a double pivot to control the middle of the pitch. Ilaix Sotelo and Beltrán Dami Dotor are tasked with shielding the defense and recycling possession to move the team forward. One midfielder often drops between the centre-backs to receive the ball and play short from the back, while the other looks to carry the ball forward to connect the lines. This pairing must work hard to intercept passes and win the second ball to prevent the opposition from playing through the middle.

In the attacking phase, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defense. Williot Hugo plays as the left winger, cutting inside to find space, while Carles stays wide on the right to provide width. Aspas Durán leads the line as the main striker to hold up the ball and link up play with the wide players. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. This setup creates many runs in behind and allows the wingers to arrive late into the box to finish crosses.

Celta gains a major advantage through the ability to press high in coordinated waves. The presence of three attackers allows them to pin the last defender and squeeze the space in the opponent half. They also benefit from wide overloads when the wing backs overlap the winger to create two on one situations. This ability to quickly switch play from one side to the other makes them very difficult to mark.

This 5-2-3 formation focuses on defensive solidity and rapid attacking transitions. It is a setup best suited for facing teams that play with a high line and leave space behind their defenders.
