These wide players are tasked to push high up the pitch when Brazil has the ball, but they must track back to help the three central defenders when the opposition attacks.

The midfield relies on a three-man midfield with a carrier and a creative spark. Dunga works as the defensive anchor to shield the defence and win the second ball in the center. Alemão operates alongside him to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often driving forward with the ball to gain ground. Valdo plays as an attacking ten behind the two strikers, tasked to find the feet of the striker and play through the lines. This central group works to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch to prevent the opposition from playing through the center.

Brazil uses two forwards in a partnership to lead the attack. Müller and Careca work together to pressure the opposition back line and make runs in behind. Careca often acts as the striker who can hold up the ball, allowing Müller to find space or arrive late into the box. The team builds the attack by spreading wide through Jorginho and Branco, who look to deliver a cross or cut it back to the central players. When the ball is won high up the pitch, the forwards look to break quickly to catch the opponent out of position.

This lineup offers great strength through its ability to defend in a narrow defensive block. The presence of three central defenders makes Brazil very difficult to break down through the middle, providing compactness when defending.
