Arsenal Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Sesko · G. Jesus · Saka · Havertz · Ødegaard · Zinchenko · G. Magalhães · Timber · Saliba · Rice · RayaArsenal focuses on a high press and heavy possession to control games using a 4-3-3 formation. The team seeks to dominate the ball and squeeze the space in the opponent half. This lineup is built to pin the opposition back and create chances through constant ball circulation and rapid movement in the final third.
Raya acts as the goalkeeper, playing a key role in the build up as he plays short from the back. The back line operates as a flat back four with Saliba and G. Magalhães as the central defenders. Saliba uses his recovery pace to cover for others, while G. Magalhães provides aerial strength and physical presence. Timber plays as the right back, looking to overlap the winger, while Zinchenko acts as an inverted full back to add more presence in the middle.
A three-man midfield connects the lines, led by Rice who sits in the single pivot role to shield the defence. Rice uses his tackling and interception skills to win the ball back high up the pitch. Ødegaard operates in the right central midfield role, driving forward with the ball and looking to play through the lines. Havertz plays as an inverted eight, making late runs into the box and helping to press in a mid-block when possession is lost.
The attacking front line features three players designed to stretch the defence. Sesko acts as the lone striker, playing to find the feet of the striker and hold up the ball to bring others into play. On the wings, Saka plays as a right winger who likes to cut inside to create goalscoring chances. G. Jesus plays as a left winger, often making runs in behind to exploit gaps. These forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.
Arsenal offers several tactical advantages with this lineup. The team creates numerical superiority in midfield when Zinchenko moves inside, allowing the midfielders to control the tempo. They also use wide overloads when Timber pushes high to assist Saka. The ability to press high in coordinated waves makes it very difficult for opponents to play out from the back.
This 4-3-3 formation relies on aggressive pressing and high ball retention to dictate the game. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play through a high press or those that sit deep in a low block.
