Al-Dawsari stays between the posts to command the area. The back line operates as a back five with Neves acting as the left centre-back and Kanno holding the middle. The wide defenders, Malcom at left wing back and Milinković-Savić at right wing back, are expected to push up the pitch to provide width. This unit must hold a narrow defensive block to ensure the middle remains hard to penetrate.

The midfield works as a flat four to cover the width of the pitch. Lodi sits on the left to help the wing back, while Cancelo occupies the right side to support the transition. In the center, Koulibaly and Al-Bulayhi sit in front of the back five to shield the defense. These two roles are vital to intercept passes and win the second ball.
