This lineup aims to win the ball high up the pitch and attack with massive numbers to pin the opposition back. A. Rossi stays between the posts to command the area and sweep behind a high line when the defenders push up. The defensive unit operates with a flat back four where G. Varela acts as a right back to provide width while Ayrton Lucas plays as an attacking left back to push high. L. Ortiz and L. Pereira form the central pairing, with L. Ortiz acting as a ball playing defender to start attacks from the back. They must stay compact to prevent being split by long balls while they defend zonally.

The midfield consists of a double pivot designed to control the center of the pitch. Pulgar works to shield the defense and win the second ball, while Jorginho looks to connect the defensive and attacking lines with his passing range. This two man unit must work hard to cover the space left behind the advancing full backs. They are tasked to intercept passes and recycle possession quickly to keep the pressure on the opponent.

In the attacking third, Flamengo uses four players to stretch the defense. Pedro acts as a central presence to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates, while De Arrascaeta plays as a second striker in the hole to link play. Gerson operates on the right wing to cut inside and create chances, while L. Araújo stays wide on the left to pull defenders away. The forwards are expected to press from the front to force a long ball and regain control.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs join the attackers. The team can also use its high volume of forwards to press in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to play out from the back. This setup allows the club to isolate wide players in one on one situations once the midfield has progressed the ball through the thirds.

This 4-2-4 formation provides a heavy offensive presence that seeks to dominate games through constant pressure. It is a lineup best suited for situations where Flamengo needs to break down a low block or exploit a high defensive line.
