River Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Armani · Montiel · Pezzella · P. Diaz · Quarta · L. Rivero · Meza · Colidio · Mastantuono · Kranevitter · AcuñaRiver aims to dominate through heavy central presence and verticality with a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup works to control the tempo by keeping players close together and using high intensity to win the ball back quickly. The goal is to use the extra bodies in the middle to overwhelm opponents and move the ball toward the goal through direct passing and quick combinations.
Armani guards the goal and organizes the defensive unit from the back. The defensive line consists of a back three where Pezzella acts as the central anchor to clear the lines and win headers. Quarta plays as the right center back to cover space and step up when needed, while L. Rivero occupies the left center back spot to maintain the line. This back three works to keep the unit compact and ready to shift as a single block to deny space.
A strong three man midfield acts as the engine for River. Kranevitter sits in the middle to shield the defence and pick up runners, allowing the other players to push higher. Montiel operates in the right central midfield role to carry the ball forward and support the attack, while P. Diaz provides balance on the left side of the central trio. The wide midfielders, Acuña and Meza, occupy the left and right attacking midfield slots to provide width and press aggressively in the final third to win it back high up the pitch.
The attack relies on two forwards working in close partnership. Colidio operates as the left striker to hold up the ball and link play, while Mastantuono plays as the right striker to find pockets of space between the lines. These two forwards press the opposition back line to force long balls and create turnovers. The team builds the attack by using the wide players to stretch the defence, creating space for Colidio and Mastantuono to run in behind or receive lay offs in the box.
This 3-5-2 formation offers several tactical advantages. The central density creates numerical superiority in midfield, making it difficult for opponents to play through the middle. By using Acuña and Meza as attacking midfielders, the team can quickly transition from a compact defensive block to a heavy offensive wave. This setup also allows the team to press in pairs to squeeze the space in the opponent half.
River uses this lineup to dictate play through central control and high pressure. It is a formation best suited for games where the team wants to dominate possession and pin the opponent into their own half.
