River focuses on a high press and quick transitions through a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup aims to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch and force the opponent into mistakes. The system relies on heavy work rates to win the ball back high up the pitch and move forward quickly to catch the opposition out of position.

Máximo sits between the posts to organize the defensive line. The back four functions as a flat back four to maintain compactness. Ezequiel operates as a right back to provide width, while Ignacio plays as the left back to cover the flank. In the center, Thiago and Martin act as the central defenders, with Thiago providing strength in the air and Martin acting as a covering defender to sweep behind a high line. The unit works together to maintain a compact shape when the opponent tries to play out from the back.

The midfield is a five man unit that relies on a double pivot to shield the defense. Ignacio and Francisco occupy the holding roles to deny the turn of attacking midfielders. In front of them, Leonel, Elías, and Joaquín form a three man midfield that connects the defense to the attack. Leonel works to drive forward with the ball, while Elías and Joaquín look to recycle possession and play through the lines. This group must press aggressively to win the ball back in the middle third.

Dylan acts as a lone striker and is tasked to press from the front to disrupt the opponent build up. He must hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to join the attack. The wide players in the midfield must support the attack by making runs in behind or providing width to stretch the defense. River looks to attack in combinations, using the midfielders to arrive late into the box while Dylan pins the last defender.

A major strength of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves to win the ball back high up the pitch. The double pivot of Ignacio and Francisco provides security against counter attacks, allowing the other midfielders to push forward. River also benefits from the numerical superiority in the central areas, which makes it difficult for opponents to play through the middle.
