The midfield setup uses a three man midfield with a carrier and an attacking ten behind the striker to create a box in certain phases. Mac Allister sits in a central role to connect the defensive and attacking lines and recycle possession. Gravenberch operates on the left to drive forward with the ball, while Szoboszlai provides energy to press aggressively and win the second ball. Wirtz occupies the space between the lines as an attacking ten, looking to play through the lines and find the forwards.

Liverpool utilizes two forwards in a partnership to stretch the opposition defense. Gakpo plays as a pressing centre-forward, leading the hunt to win the ball back high up the pitch. Salah operates as an inverted winger from the right side, cutting inside to find shooting lanes or lay it off to runners. The attack relies on link up play between the lines and quick combinations to break the lines, with the wide players looking to exploit the space created when the full backs overlap.

This formation offers significant advantages through its ability to press high in coordinated waves. The presence of Wirtz and the advanced midfielders allows for numerical superiority in the final third during attacking phases. Liverpool can also use the speed of transition to hit in behind on the transition, especially when Salah and Gakpo exploit the space left by pushed up defenders.
