Starting Lineup

Mas (Mas) · Bruno Silva · Pedro · Kakazinho · Mas · Dan · Junqueira · Bonfim · Thiago · Panegassi · Cerveja

Wolves look to play a direct and vertical style of football using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup focuses on defensive stability while preparing to hit the opposition quickly on the transition. The goal is to stay compact and use the width of the pitch to stretch the game when moving from defense to attack.

Mas operates between the posts as the goalkeeper to organize the back five. A back three consisting of Mas, Dan, and Pedro provides a sturdy foundation where Dan acts as the central defender to hold the line. Pedro and Mas occupy the wide center back roles to cover space when the wing backs push forward. Kakazinho and Bruno Silva function as attacking wing backs, tasked to provide width and overlap the attackers. This defensive unit can shift into a low block to deny space between the lines.

The midfield relies on a two man unit with Panegassi and Cerveja working to control the middle. Panegassi acts as one of the midfielders to shield the defense and win the second ball. Cerveja works alongside to drive forward with the ball and connect the defensive unit to the front three. These two must work hard to compress the midfield and ensure they do not get outnumbered in the center.

Wolves employ three attackers across the front to pin the opposition back line. Bonfim leads the line as a pressing centre forward to harass defenders and win the ball high up the pitch. Thiago plays as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside and create chances, while Junqueira operates on the right to stretch the defense. This front three looks to move in combinations to create runs in behind.

One major advantage for Wolves is the ability to use wide overloads through the movement of Kakazinho and Bruno Silva. This creates space for Thiago and Junqueira to work in one on one situations. The formation also allows for great compactness when defending, making it hard for opponents to play through the middle.

This 5-2-3 formation is built to stay solid and strike with pace. It is best suited for games against teams that dominate possession and leave space behind their defenders.
