To control the game through central dominance and quick transitions, Inter plays a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the middle of the pitch and use the width of the field through aggressive wing backs. The team works to keep the ball and move the opposition around until a gap appears.

Sommer acts as the last line of defense, playing out from the back to start the build up. The defensive unit uses a back three consisting of Pavard, Acerbi, and Bastoni. Pavard holds the right side while Acerbi sits in the middle to win the header and clear the lines. Bastoni plays as a left-sided ball playing defender, using his passing range to find players in the midfield. This back three stays compact to deny the turn to strikers.

In the middle of the pitch, Asllani sits as the single pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. Barella and Mkhitaryan occupy the central spaces, with Barella using his energy to drive forward and connect the lines. Darmian and C. Augusto play as the wide players, pushing up to provide width and support the attack. This five man midfield allows the team to compress the midfield and win the second ball.

The attack features a partnership of two forwards, Esposito and L. Martínez. L. Martínez acts as a pressing centre-forward, using his intensity to trigger a press from the front. They work in combinations to pull defenders out of position, often looking for runs in behind or for Darmian and C. Augusto to deliver early crosses. The two forwards often drop deep to link up play with the midfield, creating space for others to arrive late into the box.

A major advantage for Inter is the numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch. By using three central midfielders and two wing backs, the team can often overload the opposition. The ability to switch play quickly through the wide players also stretches the defence. When defending, the team can quickly shift into a narrow defensive block to make it hard for opponents to play through the lines.

This 3-5-2 formation provides a solid balance between defensive stability and attacking intent. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to handle wide overloads or those that leave space behind their midfield.
