SK Rapid Football Formation
Starting Lineup
J. Auer · Sangaré · Raux Yao · Horn · Grgic · Amane · Bolla · Jansson · Beljo · Seidl · HedlSK Rapid relies on a 5-2-3 formation to execute a counter attacking style of play. The team focuses on being defensively solid and looking to hit the opposition quickly once the ball is won. This lineup is built to sit deep and wait for the chance to exploit spaces left by teams that push too high.
Hedl stays in goal to command his area and organize the defensive line. The back five works as a unit, with Grgic sitting in the center to win the header and clear the lines. Raux Yao and Horn act as the wide center backs to cover the channels and support the wing backs. Bolla plays as the right wing back to provide width, while J. Auer operates as the left wing back to push up the pitch. This defensive unit can drop into a low block to deny space or squeeze the space to trigger a press.
The midfield is a double pivot consisting of Amane and Sangaré. These two players work to protect the center of the pitch and win the second ball. Sangaré and Amane act as the connection between the defense and the attack, often dropping deep to receive the ball from the center backs. They work to carry the ball forward and play through the lines to find the front three. Their main job is to intercept passes and then break quickly to catch the opponent out of position.
In the final third, the attack is led by Beljo, who acts as a lone striker to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. Seidl and Jansson provide the width as wide wingers, with Seidl on the left and Jansson on the right. They look to cut inside to create central threats or pull wide to allow the wing backs to overlap. The forwards work to press the opposition back line, using quick combinations to create runs in behind. This formation aims to create one on one situations for the wingers.
One major tactical advantage for SK Rapid is the ability to create wide overloads. When Bolla and J. Auer push up, they join the wingers to overwhelm the opposition full backs. The team also benefits from extreme compactness when defending in a mid block, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. The speed of transition is another key strength, allowing the team to move from a defensive block to an attacking formation in seconds.
This 5-2-3 formation is a masterclass in defensive stability and rapid transition. It is best suited for games against teams that want to control possession and play a high line.
