This lineup is built to use width and quick transitions to catch opponents out of position. By using a heavy presence in the final third, the team looks to stretch the defence and create clear chances through rapid movement.
Nevistić acts as the goalkeeper to organize the defensive unit from the back. The team defends in a back five with Mišić acting as the central anchor of the line. Galešić operates as the left centre back while Dominguez provides cover on the right side. On the flanks, RPG and Perez act as attacking wing backs to provide width and support the attack. This defensive unit can sit deep to defend a lead or push up to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch.
The midfield functions as a double pivot with Villar and Ljubičić tasked with controlling the tempo. Villar works to link the defensive line to the attack by finding teammates in space, while Ljubičić helps to win the second ball and protect the central area. This pair must work hard to cover the ground between the back five and the front three. They act as the engine of Dinamo, recycling possession and ensuring the team stays compact when the opposition has the ball.
In the attacking phase, the team uses three attackers across the front. Kulenović acts as the central striker to hold up the ball and lead the line. On the wings, Vidović and Lisica provide constant threats by pushing high to pin the last defender. The wingers look to cut inside or find space to cross, creating chances for Kulenović to attack the near post or far post. This frontline movement is designed to create runs in behind and isolate defenders in one on one situations.
A primary strength of this formation is the wide overload created when RPG and Perez push forward to support Vidović and Lisica. This forces the opposition to defend a large amount of space. Another advantage is the ability to transition quickly from a mid-block into a direct attack. The combination of a strong central anchor in Mišić and the high pressing of the front three allows the team to win the ball back high up the pitch.
This 5-2-3 formation provides a solid base for counter attacking football. It is best suited for matches against teams that play a high line and leave space behind their defenders.
