Williams stays between the posts to organize the back line. The defense operates as a flat back four where Mudau acts as an attacking full back to provide width on the right side. Lunga plays as a left back to cover the flank and support the central defenders. Kekana and Lebusa form the central partnership, with Kekana acting as a ball playing defender to start attacks and Lebusa providing cover and strength to win the second ball. The unit works to squeeze the space and maintain a high line to keep the team compact.

A three man midfield provides the engine for the Sundowns. Mokoena sits as a single pivot to shield the defense and intercept passes. He connects the defensive unit to the attackers by recycling possession and finding players in better positions. Modiba and Mvala operate as two inverted eights who drive forward with the ball and occupy the half spaces. Mvala works to press aggressively to win the ball high, while Modiba provides the link to the front line by making late runs into the box.

The attack uses three players across the front to stretch the defense. Mothiba acts as the lone striker and uses his presence to hold up the ball and wait for support. Mdunyelwa plays as a left winger who looks to cut inside and create goal scoring chances, while Morena stays wide on the right to spread the play.
