Starting Lineup

Valle · Thiaw · Dossena · Braunöder · Douvikas · Da Cunha · Paz · Baturina · Perrone · Caqueret · Butez

Como looks to control matches through high pressure and heavy numbers in the center of the pitch with a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and quickly progress through the thirds to catch the opposition off guard. By crowding the middle, Como intends to dictate the tempo and suffocate opponents in their own half.

Butez operates between the posts as the last line of defense. Ahead of him, the team employs a very high line with only two central defenders, Thiaw and Dossena, acting as the primary shield. Thiaw is known for his aerial strength, while Dossena provides cover to maintain the line. This two man back line requires the defenders to step up constantly to squeeze the space and catch strikers offside, making them highly reliant on the midfielders to drop back and cover the space behind them.

The midfield unit is the engine room of this formation, consisting of a single pivot and two inverted eights with an attacking ten. Braunöder acts as the primary shield to deny the pivot and protect the two defenders. Next to him, Perrone and Caqueret operate in the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Paz plays as the advanced ten, looking to find the feet of the striker or play through the lines. This five man midfield allows the team to maintain a compact shape and win the second ball easily.

In the final third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the opposition. Douvikas acts as the pressing centre-forward, working to pin the last defender and hold up the ball. On the flanks, Da Cunha and Baturina operate as wide wingers. Da Cunha looks to cut inside to create overloads in the middle, while Baturina stays wide to provide width. This setup allows the team to attack in combinations and create runs in behind through quick transitions.

One major advantage of this Como lineup is the numerical superiority in midfield, which makes it very difficult for opponents to find passing lanes. The team can also use the five midfielders to create wide overloads when the wingers pull the opposition defenders out of position. This allows the attacking unit to isolate players in one on one situations or exploit the space left behind by retreating full backs.

The 2-5-3 formation is a high risk, high reward system focused on aggressive ball winning. It is best suited for games where Como can dominate possession and press a team that struggles to play out from the back.
